Why Your Air Conditioner Needs Routine Maintenance

With temperatures trending toward consistent heat, you may have come to the realization that it’s time to schedule service for your air conditioner. Or maybe you think since you don’t actually have a problem with your air conditioner, it’s okay to skip maintenance this time around. We really don’t recommend this!

It’s never too late to get your air conditioner tuned-up, nor is it ever a bad idea to do so. There are a number of benefits to routine, professional, maintenance.

Schedule Maintenance Once a Year

Professional maintenance is something that every air conditioning system needs to have done on a routine basis, annually. Actually, if you have a 2-in-1 heat pump system then you should have maintenance done even more often than this—every six months.

What matters the most when it comes to HVAC system maintenance is that you have it done routinely, versus the time of year you have it done. But why is this?

  • Summer Doesn’t Take a Holiday: We may be known for chilly winters, but our weather is actually quite variable and summer temps can greet us even in the dead of winter thanks to sudden heat waves. Maintenance helps ensure that your air conditioner is always ready to combat warmer temperatures, no matter how long they last or when they strike.
  • Skipping Maintenance Leads to Higher Energy Costs: Generally speaking, every year that your air conditioner goes without maintenance, it loses about 5% of its efficiency, and the drop-off will get steeper over time. You’ll pay more for the times your AC system is running longer than it should have to because it is struggling to do its job.
  • Avoid Sudden AC Breakdowns: The most important reason to get AC maintenance done on a routine basis is to prevent the system from suddenly shutting down on you during a baking hot day. There are plenty more of those coming, and you want your cooling system ready to get through each one of them.
  • Prevent Unnecessary Repairs: There’s no need for you to spend money that you should otherwise be enjoying over the summer, on repairs for your air conditioner that you weren’t planning on. Even a simple precaution of a maintenance session, no matter the time of year it happens, will take care of 85% of the repairs your air conditioner otherwise may need throughout its lifespan.

For a reputable HVAC company, maintenance is never just a “one and done” type of service. You’ll want to work with a team each year that you can trust to do comprehensive maintenance, and follow up with reliable repairs as needed. This is why you should contact our team!
